  • The main function of a motor protector is to provide comprehensive protection for the motor. When the motor encounters abnormal working conditions—such as overload, overcurrent, phase loss, stall, short circuit, overvoltage, undervoltage, three-phase imbalance, overheating, bearing wear, or stator-rotor eccentricity—the protector will trigger an alarm or activate protective measures to safeguard the motor.
  • A motor protector is made up of a three-phase current transformer, detection circuit, amplification circuit, delay circuit, adjustment circuit, and executive relay. Its working process is as follows:
  • First, the three-phase current transformer induces the operating current of the motor and transmits this current signal to the detection circuit. When the detection circuit finds that the induced current is out of phase (phase loss) or exceeds the preset value (overcurrent, overload, etc.), it sends the signal to the amplification circuit. The amplification circuit amplifies the signal to a level that can drive the executive relay, making the relay act.
  • The contacts of the executive relay are connected in series in the power supply circuit of the contactor coil. Once the relay acts, it will cut off the power supply of the contactor, and the contactor will disconnect the motor power, thus achieving the purpose of protecting the motor.
  • It should be noted that the delay circuit is designed to avoid false tripping caused by the large starting current of the motor when it is started, and the delay time can be adjusted according to actual needs. The adjustment circuit, on the other hand, is used to accurately set the operating current of the protector, which needs to be matched according to the actual working current of the motor being protected.
